HOW TO SWIM WITH THE WHALE SHARK ?
Entering the Water
Gentle Entry: Enter the water gently to avoid startling the whale sharks. Use the boat's ladder or slide in slowly from the side.
Calm and Quiet: Move calmly and quietly in the water. Avoid splashing or making sudden movements.
Swimming with Whale Sharks
Maintain Distance: Keep a safe distance of at least 3 meters (10 feet) from the whale shark's body and 4 meters (13 feet) from its tail. This helps avoid stressing the animal and ensures your safety.
Parallel Swimming: Swim parallel to the whale shark, not directly in front or behind. This allows the shark to move freely and helps you stay in its field of vision.
Stay at the Surface: Stay near the surface of the water to avoid descending too close to the whale shark. This is especially important for snorkelers.
Observe and Enjoy: Take the time to observe the whale shark's behavior and movements. Enjoy the experience without trying to touch or ride the shark.
Safety and Etiquette
Follow the Guide: Always follow the instructions of your guide. They are trained to ensure both your safety and the whale shark's well-being.
No Flash Photography: Avoid using flash photography as it can disturb the whale shark.
Respect the Environment: Do not touch or disturb any other marine life or coral reefs during the encounter.
No Feeding: Never attempt to feed the whale shark or any other marine creatures.
